Natural gas production from deep-lying formations (deep-gas) at the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) field block will begin in the first quarter of 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
“The extraction of natural gas from ACG is a very promising project,” Aliyev said in his speech last Friday at the 10th ministerial meeting within the framework of the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor.
The Head of State noted that the ACG block, which has been the main source of Azerbaijani oil exports for many years, in addition to the “Shah Deniz” and “Absheron” gas fields, will become an additional source of Azerbaijani gas supplies to world markets.
Aliyev added that at the first stage, the production of deep-lying gas from the ACG block will amount to about 500 million cubic meters per year.
“However, this figure will increase 3-4 times over the next few years,” Aliyev stressed.
It should be noted that the reserves of deep-gas at ACG are currently projected to amount to more than 100 bcm.
BP-Azerbaijan (operator of the ACG project) plans to start drilling the first production well for deep-gas production in the second half of 2024.
