At the beginning of this week, TANAP A.Ş., the operator of the Trans-Anatolian gas Pipeline (TANAP), announced that 60 bcm of gas have already been transported through the pipeline.
“Since the start of commercial gas operation on June 30, 2018, 60 bcm of Azerbaijani gas have been transported through the TANAP pipeline,” media page of the company.
The Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a main gas pipeline in Turkiye was signed in June 2013. In August 2015, the construction of the gas pipeline began. Commercial operation of the pipeline began in June 2018. It is currently transporting gas produced within the framework of the “Shah Deniz-2” project.
The capacity of TANAP, with a length of 1,850 km, currently stands at 16 bcm per year. However, after a phased expansion, it will be possible to transport up to 31 bcm of gas.
TANAP plays an important role in the energy security of Turkiye and some European countries.
