The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) may extend the gas supply contract signed with Romania for another two years, but everything will depend on the desire of the Romanian side, SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov said on April 1 during the 8th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Romanian intergovernmental joint commission on trade and economic relations and scientific and technical cooperation.
According to him, March 31 was the last day of the gas contract signed between the two countries, according to which SOCAR had the opportunity to supply up to 1bcm of gas per year to Romania. Nasirov announced the possibility of continuing deliveries this year and next.
He said that over the past three years SOCAR has supplied 1.2 million tons of petroleum products worth 800 million US dollars to Romania through subsidiaries.
SOCAR Turkiye supplied 1.1 million tons of petroleum products to Romania, 33 thousand tons of chemical products worth 1.1 billion US dollars, and SOCAR Trading supplied about 70 thousand tons of petroleum products worth 600 million US dollars to Romania.
He also noted that SOCAR operates 74 gas stations in Romania and has invested 70 million euros in the construction of infrastructure in this country.
