Gas supplies via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) may cause fluctuations in the volume of supplies to Italy from other suppliers. This is stated in the quarterly report of the Russian company Gazprom
“In the third quarter of 2018, the supply of commercial gas from Azerbaijan began via the TANAP pipeline to western Turkey.
In the third quarter of 2020, the pipeline was brought to its design capacity of 16 billion cubic meters per year for further gas sales to Greece, Albania and Italy through the adjoining TAP pipeline with a capacity of 10 bcm per year.
The full route of gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Italy, dubbed the Southern Gas Corridor, began its first commercial deliveries on December 31, 2020. As TAP reaches its design capacity of 10 bcm per year, this may cause some fluctuations in the volume of supplies to Italy from other suppliers as the market adapts to the new source of pipeline gas,” the report says.
The TAP gas pipeline currently has a capacity of 10 bcm per year. Of this volume, 8 bcm will be supplied to the Italian market through the pipeline, and 1 bcm – to the markets of Greece and Bulgaria. By the middle of this decade, it is planned to double the capacity of the TAP – up to 20 bcm.
