The Russian government has updated and increased estimates of Russian gas exports in 2023 via gas pipelines and in liquefied form – new figures were presented by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak in the Federation Council.
According to Novak’s presentation, in 2023 pipeline gas exports amounted to 99.6 bcm. Two weeks ago, Novak’s article in the Energy Policy magazine cited a figure of 91.4 bcm.
Note that the updated figure also exceeded the estimate of the medium-term Macroforecast of the Russian Federation – 97 bcm.
In 2021, Russian gas exports through the pipeline amounted to 206.8 bcm, in 2022 – 142.1 bcm. Novak noted that the largest decrease in export supplies occurred in 2022 due to sabotage on the Nord Stream gas pipeline, and 2023 was the year of stabilization in the gas industry.
Officials use data on the export of natural gas produced in the Russian Federation, while Gazprom’s statistics also include the re-export of Central Asian gas.
LNG export supplies, according to Novak’s new presentation, amounted to 45.4 bcm in 2023 (which is 1.9% less than in 2022 – 46.3 bcm).
