On Monday, September 25, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the ceremony of laying the foundation of the Iqdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline took place.
The heads of state laid the foundation of the Iqdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline.
It should be noted that the Iqdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline will not only diversify Nakhchivan’s gas supply, but also eliminate its dependence on one source.
On December 15, 2020, in Ankara, Azerbaijan and Turkey signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of the Iqdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. On the basis of the Order of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated February 10, 2022, funds were allocated from the state budget for the construction of the Iqdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline.
The project was among the priority projects of the “State Program of socio-economic development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023-2027” adopted on June 5 this year. The length of the pipeline from Iqdir to Sadarak region is 97.5 kilometers, including the Azerbaijani section – 17.5 kilometers, and the Turkish section – 80 kilometers.
The design capacity of the pipeline is up to 2 mcm of gas per day. Thus, Nakhchivan’s gas demand will be fully met. In the future, the pipeline capacity can be more than doubled.
