Uzbekistan GTL LLC issues an update on the current state of the construction of the largest complex for the production of synthetic liquid fuel in the region. Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 the project has now entered the final stages with the overall implementation of planned works currently standing at 95.3%.
On completion of the commissioning of all auxiliary installations the commissioning of key technological installations will begin. Commissioning of production facilities and the launch ceremony are scheduled for the second half of this year.
General Director of Uzbekistan GTL LLC, Fakhritdin Abdurasulov, said:
“Our strength is in our commitment to safety and quality as our core values, as well as in exemplary dedication of our staff over the difficult months of the Covid-19 pandemic. Jointly with our international partners we seek to complete this new and exciting petrochemical complex in 2021.
“When completed, the Uzbekistan GTL LLC will bring Uzbekistan a step closer to achieving energy independence and demonstrate the success of our petrochemical growth strategy which consists of expanding our activities from competitively located feedstock, especially derived from gas, to taking advantage of the growing global demand in plastics and clean fuels.”
The GTL complex comprises four main sections – plants for supplying energy resources, unit for production of syngas (Haldor Topsoe), and units for production of synthesis liquid (Sasol) and product refinement (Chevron).
The gas pipeline from Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex to the GTL complex has been completed and is fully operational.
Today construction and installation, landscaping, laying asphalt, painting and insulation works are nearing completion.
Some installations have already been commissioned at the energy supply plant. In particular, a raw water treatment and processing unit, a demineralized water production system, a fire-fighting water supply system, a fuel gas system, boiler plants – a steam production system, a cooling water system – a cooling tower, the main and auxiliary substations of the plant, instrumentation and control equipment and some others were put into operation.
Pre-commissioning, commissioning works, as well as testing of pipelines and equipment continue in all technological zones of the complex.
About 9 thousand people are engaged at the construction site and more than 500 units of equipment are involved.
The plant’s central control panel was also put into operation and at the moment the plant’s central laboratory is undergoing national and international accreditation.
Notably, Uzbekistan GTL LLC has recently become the first company among the structural divisions of Uzbekneftegaz JSC and the 8th in the Republic of Uzbekistan, which received the Platinum status of an accredited employer (ACCA Approved Employer – Platinum) ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) – the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
- The construction of the Uzbekistan GTL plant in the Kashkadarya region started in 2017. It is one of the largest investment projects not only in Uzbekistan but in the entire region. The project aims to expand the country’s capacity for deep processing of natural gas and drastically reduce the import of hydrocarbon raw materials.
- The project is being implemented within the approved costs of US $ 3.61 billion within the framework an EPC contract concluded on a turnkey basis with a consortium of companies including Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd., Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd (Republic of Korea) and Enter Engineering Pte Ltd. (Singapore).
- It is envisaged that, when operating at full capacity, the GTL plant will process about 3.6 billion cubic metres of gas into motor fuels per annum.
