Imports of natural gas from neighboring Turkmenistan, interrupted for technical reasons, have been restored in Uzbekistan, the press service of “Uztransgaz” JSC said on Monday.
“Gas supplies from Turkmenistan began to gradually recover from January 21. Now, up to 12.6 mcm of gas per day are pumped from the Turkmen side, a gradual increase in the volume of supplies to 16 mcm is expected,” the report says.
Earlier it was reported that on January 12, Turkmenistan stopped gas exports to Uzbekistan due to malfunctions at the gas production enterprises of the Turkmengas state concern due to abnormal cold weather.
The day before, at a government meeting, it was noted that, according to forecasts, in 2023 in Uzbekistan there is an opportunity to increase gas production to 56.3 bcm.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, in 2022, gas production in the republic decreased by 4% compared to 2021, to 51.7 bcm.
