Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Aleksey Miller and Prime Minister of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh during a video conference on August 25 discussed prospects for cooperation on a project for pipeline gas supplies from Russia to China through Mongolia, the Russian company said.

As part of this meeting, Aleksey Miller and Mongolian Deputy Prime Minister Yangugiin Sodbaatar signed a Memorandum of Intent on the creation of a special purpose company. The company will be established in Mongolia to develop a feasibility study for the construction and operation of the main gas pipeline.

Reportedly, the capacity of the new export channel through Mongolia to China may reach 50 bcm of gas per year. Prior to that, on December 5, 2019, Gazprom and the government of Mongolia signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
