In 2023, exports of Turkmen oil and gas condensate increased by 9% compared to 2022, the “Argus” agency reported. It is noted that foreign supplies of raw materials from Turkmenistan increased for the first time in the last three years against the background of increased production by foreign producers. The export of Turkmen raw materials last year amounted to 3 million 158 thousand tons, compared with 2.9 million tons in 2022.
Turkmenistan exported its raw materials mainly through Azerbaijan last year. In 2023, the export of Turkmen oil and condensate through Azerbaijan increased by 18% to 3.02 million tons. In addition, Turkmenistan supplied 131.6 thousand tons of oil to Uzbekistan and small volumes (7.7 thousand tons) to Afghanistan.
The main increase in export supplies was due to shipments of Cheleken oil from Dragon Oil resources, which increased by 38% last year to 1.75 million tons. In addition, export shipments of Okarem oil from Eni Turkmenistan resources increased by 11% to 235 thousand tons. The entire volume of oil was exported to the Azerbaijani terminals in the Caspian Sea for further pumping via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline.
In addition, 6 foreign companies exported 1.03 million tons oil Turkmen oil through Azerbaijan, among which Petronas (893.5 thousand tons) stood out. “Argus” agency also reports that last year oil and condensate production in Turkmenistan decreased to 7.7 million tons from 8.2 million tons in 2022. The decrease in the volume of raw material production is due to the depletion of most onshore deposits.
