Azerbaijan increased gas exports to Europe by 236% in Q1

Azerbaijan exported 2.6 bcm of gas to Europe in the first quarter of 2022, Minister of Energy of the Republic Parviz Shahbazov said.

According to the minister, in January-March of this year, the export of Azerbaijani gas to Turkey amounted to 2.2 bcm, to Europe – 2.6 bcm. He also added that 1.1 bcm of Azerbaijani gas was supplied to Georgia in the reporting period.

Earlier, SOCAR reported that gas exports from Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to 5 billion 883.866 mcm, which is 14.7% more than in January-March 2021.

It should be noted that in the first quarter of last year, according to the Ministry of Energy, the export of Azerbaijani gas to Turkey amounted to 3 bcm, to Georgia – 784 mcm, to Europe – 1.1 bcm.

Thus, in January-March 2022, the volume of gas supplies to Turkey decreased by 26.7%, to Europe – increased by 236%, to Georgia – by 40.3%.
Currently, Azerbaijani gas is exported to Georgia, Turkey and Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) system. Deliveries to Europe began on December 31, 2020.
