The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan plans to establish ammonium production from associated petroleum gas and its supply to Europe, said Farid Jafarov, general director of Sokar Rus.
“Reducing the carbon trace is the inevitability of development not only of oil and gas companies, but of the entire world economy as a whole.
The SOCAR group of companies is already implementing a number of projects in this direction. First, it is the production of hydrogen in Absheron for further transportation along the Southern Gas Corridor” for consumers in Europe,” Jafarov said in an interview with Russian media.
He added that the company is implementing a program to completely zero emissions of associated petroleum gas until 2022.
“We are considering various projects at the intersection of traditional and innovative technologies. One of the projects that we are considering is the production of ammonium directly in the field from associated petroleum gas, with the capture and injection of carbon emissions back into the formation to maintain reservoir pressure.
As well as transportation of this ammonia to Europe as a raw material for further hydrogen production,” Jafarov said.
“In general, we have very limited carbon emissions along the chain. Our company fits into the state strategy, which was approved by the President of Azerbaijan. And this strategy is to achieve the goal of zero emissions by 2050,” he stressed.
SOCAR plans to reduce to zero emissions of associated gas into the atmosphere in 2022, the company said. Earlier it was reported that SOCAR has already reduced associated gas emissions to 2%.
