The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will be complete by the end of 2021, and it will be put into operation, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
“The work that is being carried out today will be completed by the end of the year, and the project will be put into operation,” Novak said on the air of the Russia-1 TV channel.
Commenting on the possibility of maintaining the transit of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine after the launch of Nord Stream 2, the head of the Austrian oil and gas company OMV (one of the project participants) Rainer Seele said: “Make an attractive offer and if you offer Gazprom transit capacities on good terms, then he will certainly consider it. Do you understand?! You cannot win the competition without entering the fight!”
* On June 4, the first string of the pipeline was laid. The laid sections of the pipeline have yet to be connected and commissioned. On the second line, the work on laying the pipeline continues.
