In January 2018 Ukraine reduced transit of natural gas through its gas transportation system (GTS) by 32.1% (by 2,857.5 mcm) compared to the same period in 2017 – up to 6,055.5 mcm. The operational data of Ukrtransgaz indicated this on February 2.
Gas transit through Ukraine to Europe amounted to 5,689.4 mcm, and gas transit to Moldova amounted to 366.1 mcm in January 2018. With the exception of January 2015, January 2018 showed the lowest transit through Ukraine over the last 7 years.
In 2017 Ukraine increased its gas transit via its GTS by 13.7% (by 11.257 bcm) compared to 2016 – up to 93,457.1 mcm, including transit to Europe that amounted to 90,749. 2 mcm, and transit to Moldova that was 2,707.9 mcm.
According to the head of Naftogaz, A. Kobolev, Ukraine should come up with a specific proposal to attract a European partner to manage its GTS as early as the beginning of 2018. Delay with the involvement of an international partner will entail the loss of transit gas.
The head of Naftogaz considers it possible to sign an agreement on the management of the Ukrainian GTS with foreign partners already in the 3rd quarter of 2018.
Earlier, Naftogaz reported that companies such as Snam (Italy) / Eustream (Slovakia) and Gasunie (Netherlands) / GRT Gas (France) showed interest in managing the gas transportation system of Ukraine, and relevant memorandums were signed with them.
