Yesterday with the participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the ceremony of signing Azerbaijani-Turkmen documents took place.
A total of 12 documents were signed.
The President of Azerbaijan and the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov signed the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
“The Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Turkmenistan on further development of cooperation in the energy sector” was signed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Maksad Babayev.
“The strategic areas of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are energy and transport,” the President of Turkmenistan said, making a joint statement for the press with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
“We discussed in detail the issues of economic cooperation and came to a common opinion on the need to expand our mutual activities in this area in accordance with the industrial and infrastructural potential of the two countries,” Berdymukhammedov said.
The Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev noted the high level of strategic cooperation between Baku and Ashgabat: “Our ties are developing successfully and are at the highest level. Today, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are strategic partners,” Aliyev stressed, speaking with the joint statement with the President of Turkmenistan.
The President of Azerbaijan touched upon the Declaration on Strategic Cooperation signed at the end of the bilateral meeting.
Ashgabat and Baku are supporters of the transformation of the Caspian region into an arena of international partnership, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov said. He also noted that Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are working together to ensure peace and stability in the region.
The President of Turkmenistan invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to the opening ceremony of the 5th Asian Games on September 17.
* The President of Turkmenistan arrived in Baku yesterday with a two-day official visit. Prior to that, his visit to Baku took place in May 2008.
