Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the country will continue to expand the geography of gas exports, including to Europe. “We currently have a gas supply contract with eight countries. But the need for our gas is great, especially in the EU area. In the future, our export geography will expand, naturally, in the European direction,” Aliyev said at the inauguration ceremony on February 14.
According to him, a new resource base was used last year – the first gas was produced at the “Absheron” gas condensate field, which is the second largest in reserves after “Shah Deniz.”
The President said that in the near future Azerbaijan will start the second stage of development of the “Absheron” field.
According to him, it is planned to start gas production from deep-lying reservoirs in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) block of fields in 2025.
“It will also increase our resource base. In addition, there are proposals from many foreign investors to start production at the “Umid,” “Babek,” “Shafag,” “Asiman,” and “Karabakh” oil and gas condensate fields,” the head of state added.
It should be noted that gas exports from Azerbaijan in 2023 increased by 6.9% compared to 2022 – to 23 billion 856 million 355.587 thousand cubic meters. At the same time, supplies to Europe amounted to about 11.8 bcm.
Azerbaijani gas is currently exported to Georgia, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary. At the end of the first quarter, deliveries will begin to Serbia.
