The operator of the Kashagan field North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) has paid a fine of 12.419 billion tenge ($27.7 million at the current exchange rate) for environmental violations, the press service of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan reported.
It is reported that in 2022, the environmental inspectorate established the facts of burning sulfur dioxide without an environmental permit and dumping industrial waters into the Caspian Sea without purification.
Five administrative cases were initiated against NCOC, which were considered in the specialized court for administrative offenses of the city of Atyrau.
“In February of this year, the court of appeal of Atyrau imposed a fine in the amount of 12.419 billion tenge on the enterprise, which was paid in full,” the message says.
It is also reported that the order to eliminate violations is currently under consideration in the Supreme Court. Earlier, the courts of Astana recognized the order as lawful and justified.
