The European Union (EU) sees no other partner in the South Caucasus region more reliable than Azerbaijan, Malena Mard, head of the EU delegation in Azerbaijan, said.
She made the remarks Nov.16 during the Azerbaijan Infrastructure, Power and Renewable Energy Investment Conference in Baku.
She said that the EU and Azerbaijan are very important trading partners.
More than 50 percent of the goods imported by Azerbaijan accounts for the EU countries, Mard said.
Currently, Azerbaijan-EU partnership is entering a period of stability, and this cooperation is important for the Union, she added.
Mard noted that the EU maintains an elaborate strategy on diversification of Azerbaijan’s economy carried out by the president.
Mard said she was in Azerbaijan’s Yevlakh district Nov. 15, and that she saw firsthand how much attention is paid to the development of agriculture.
The EU will develop the issue of the distribution of Azerbaijani agricultural products to the EU, she added.
Also, the EU is ready to share experience with Azerbaijan in the sphere of economy and regional development, and would also like to study the experience of Azerbaijani ASAN service, said Mard.
Azerbaijan offers the EU new opportunities for ensuring energy security through the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project, she said, adding that this is a strategically important project for the EU and the Union fully supports it.
Other countries will be able to join the project, for example Iran, because the entire infrastructure for the export of Iranian gas to Europe is ready, Mard noted.
It is also important to mention the transport projects which have great prospects, she said.
