In addition to the high voltage line Kavkasioni-500 connecting the country’s power system with the Russian one, Georgia plans to build another 500 KV power line Ksani-Stepanzpinda-Mozdok in the coming 5 years to triple power flow between the two countries up to 1,400 MWT since 2021.
This information was posted on the web site of the Georgian Energy Ministry as a part of the country’s energy strategy for 2016-2025.
According to the strategy, within 10 years it is planned to double capacities of the energy systems with the neighboring countries. The power flow with Turkey and Russia is planned to be increased up to 1,400 MWt and with Armenia – up to 700 MWT. According to the same document, there are capacities to ensure power flow of 1000 MWT with Azerbaijan.
In 2015 power generation in Georgia increased by 4.5% up to 10,832,600,000 KWH against 2014.
