Yesterday BP PLC reported discovery of a new gas field on the Baltim South leasing section in the eastern delta of Nile in Egypt. The company is going to use the existing infrastructure to accelerate exploration and start extraction as soon as possible.
BP owns 50% section of Baltim. The company said that the specialists have drilled the well 3750 meters deep and reached 62 meters gas layer in the Messianic layer.
The operator of the well is ENI SpA through its subdivision IEOC and it owns the remaining 50%. The well has been drilled by Petrobel company, a joint venture of IEOC and the state partner Egyptian General Petroleum Corp.
