Energy safety is among the main priorities and therefore, EU is interested in diversification of the export routes, Miguel Arias Canetti, European Commissar for Climate and Energy, said in his interview to Euronews.
“These are the projects, which are interconnected with the electric energy sector and gas industry, such as the Southern Gas Corridor, which connects Italy with Azerbaijan. We could get access to the Azerbaijani gas,” said European Commissar.
Gas, which will be extracted from the Shah Deniz Phase 2, is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor project. Other sources could be connected to the project at the later stage.
Gas from the Shah Deniz Phase 2 will be exported to Turkey and European markets after expansion of the Southern Caucasian gas pipeline and construction of the Trans Anadolu (TANAP) and trans Adriatic pipeline (TAP).
