The evaluation of impact of construction of a new co-generation installation for the Turkish Petkim petrochemical complex, in which SOCAR has 61.32% share, on the environment has been completed, reads statement of SOCAR released yesterday.
At present gas is used as a raw material to satisfy Petkim’s needs in electric and thermal power In order to make this process cheaper, the company has been building the co-generation installation Petkojen, which will run on cheaper imported coal.
“The evaluation of impact on environment has been completed and now we have been working on licensing of the electric energy generation process,” reported the company.
On March 30, 2012 SOCAR Turkey Enerji A.S. and SOCAR International DMCC OGG bought 10.32% shares of Petkim increasing their share in the holding up to 61.32%. 38.67% of shares are in the free circulation at the Istanbul Stock Exchange.
Petkim Petrokimya Holding manufactures plastic containers, fabric, washing detergents and PVC and is the only maker of such products in Turkey, a quarter of which the company exports.
