Iran urges the Caspian basin states to cooperate to prevent pollution of the Caspian Sea.
The oil companies operating in the Caspian Sea must develop cooperation to prevent pollution of the sea, Iranian Shana new agency quoted Abbas Razmi, Director of Department of Health, Safety and Environment of the National Oil Company of Iran, as saying on Tuesday.
According to the report of the Iranian Energy Information Department, a signficant pollution comes from Volga river, which flows into the Caspian Sea.
The length and width of the Caspian Sea is approximately 1200 and 320 kilometers. Its area is 436,000 s.km. and volume of water is 770,000 cub.m. The energy resources of the Caspian Sea total 79 billion barrels of oil and 7 trillion cub.m. of natural gas. Several types of spawning and vivaparous fish live in the Caspian Sea as well.
