Rosneft company needs resources of the National Welfare Fund to develop gas fields in the Eastern Siberia, Igor Sechin, Rosneft President, said in his interview to German Der Spiegel magazine.
Asked why Rosneft has asked the state for financial assistance, Sechin said: “We want to develop hard to access gas resources in the eastern Siberia and we also plan to build petrochemical plant there.
If the government provides us the loan, it will be very good. If no, this will not be a catastrophe for us. We will simply start implementation of the project later. Rosneft has no problems with funding of the current projects.”
Vedomosti newspaper wrote earlier that Rosneft President Igor Sechin has requested the government to provide a financial aid to the company. Rosneft President offers five ways to support the company.
The most expensive one is to buy new Rosneft bonds worth 1.5 trillion rubles (over $47 billion) at the expense of the National Welfare Fund.
Sechin explained the necessity in this assistance by the US sanctions applied against the company.
