By the decision made by the Azerbaijani government on March 31, 2014 petrol with octane number 95 and higher corresponding to Euro-5 environmental standards and imported into Azerbaijan is not listed among the products regulated by the state, reported the Tariff Council.
The Council reported that in February 2014 the Cabinet of Ministers made a decision to reduce excises for AI-95 and AI-98 petrol imported into the country and cancel the customs duties for their import.
“This will create a possibility for import of Premium Euro-95 and Super Euro-98 types of petrol into Azerbaijan at a relatively low price and for their retail sale at free price. Thus, the conditions will be created for full satisfaction of the republic’s needs in petrol and supply of the local market with fuel meeting high environmental norms,” said the same source.
Share of the petrol with octane number 95 and higher in the total volume of local consumption in Azerbaijan constitutes 10%. These types of fuel are not used in the manufacture and services.
Until now Premium Euro 95 and Super Euro 98 types of petrol were not imported into Azerbaijan.
Prices for these types of fuel are fixed by the gasoline importers.
* According to the State Statistical Committee, in 2013 only 179.8 tons or three cisterns of Ai-98 gasoline (only 3,000 fillings of car tanks, which makes 8 cars fill ups a day) was imported.
** According to the audited report of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) for 2012, share of produced AI-95 petrol in the total volume of petrol production occupied only 4.7%.
