On March 31, 2014 Paolo Skaroni, Executive Director of Italian multinational oil and gas company Eni – the biggest company at the Italian stock market – was sentenced to three years in jail, reported Reuters quoting the court documents. Reuters wrote that he has very slim chances to occupy managerial position in Eni in the future.
Paolo Skaroni is also not allowed to occupy any positions in state institutions within five years. More details are not available.
The sources close to the case told Reuters that Skaroni has been sentenced for violation of environmental norms by Porto-Tolle power station on the north of Italy when Skaroni occupied the position of chief of Italian Enel company.
Skaroni released the statement saying that he is shocked with the court decision. “I have nothing to do with the case and I am going to immediately appeal against it,” he said. The electric station Porto-Tolle always corresponded to all the standards, including during the period of time mentioned in the court decision.
