The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has signed an agreement with Baku Shipyard LLC in Azerbaijan for design approval for a 38m crewboat designed by Shiptech in Singapore.
The new crewboats are intended to transport specialised personnel employed at offshore oil and gas facilities. They will be one of the first orders placed with the newly built shipyard in Baku.
Under the terms of the design approval agreement, the RS experts are to review the design documentation of a total of five ships for compliance with the RS requirements as well as other applicable documents.
The new crewboats will be constructed as part of the Azerbaijan state programme for fleet renovation. Construction is due to start in April-May 2014. They will be commissioned by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
