Iran’s hydrocarbon resources, including oil, gas and condensate, are estimated at $30 trillion, considering that 1 barrel of oil costs $100, said Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Mohammad Reza Moghaddam, reported Iranian IRNA news agency.
He added that during the period of hydrocarbon resources development Iran extracted hydrocarbons to the amount of about $8 trillion.
“The country must protect its oil and gas resources and also reduced its dependence on incomes from them,” Moghaddam said.
According to BP statistics, Iran has the world biggest gas resources and occupies the fourth place on the volume of proved oil resources.
Deputy Oil Minister also said that Iran must establish its own oil refining to avoid expensive import of oil products.
In September 2013 Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangane said that the country imports 5-7 million liters of gasoline a day.
Speaking about the economic sanctions against Iran, Moghaddam added that the country is strong enough to struggle against the sanctions.
On January 20, 2014 the EU suspended some economic sanctions against Iran in response to Iran’s curtailing its nuclear program.
