Gas prices in Bulgaria may rise by a third in the near future

Gas prices in Bulgaria may rise by about 35% from May, because due to the suspension of gas supplies from Russia, prices will almost completely depend on European exchanges, stated  Stanislav Todorov, Chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission of Bulgaria.

“We need to enter the free market and replace 80% of supplies with alternative suppliers. This amount will go at market prices, so we can expect that in May gas prices in Bulgaria will be equal to European ones,” Todorov believes.

At the same time, the executive director of Bulgargaz, Lyudmil Yotsov, said that the company already provides consumers with the necessary volumes of gas, and there are no restrictions on supplies.
On April 27, Gazprom completely stopped gas supplies to Bulgargaz (Bulgaria) and PGNiG (Poland) due to non-payment in rubles.
