At the World Climate Action Summit, organized within the framework of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SOCAR Mikail Jabbarov SOCAR stated that made a voluntary commitment to reduce methane emissions to zero by 2035.
According to him, SOCAR has signed documents in this regard: “As the main direction, a number of technical measures will be implemented to reduce methane emissions generated during oil and gas production. This reflects our attention to the climate problem; at the same time it is one of the most important goals set within the framework of this global conference.” The Minister noted that great importance is attached to the issues of ensuring a green transition in the country’s economy, expanding the use of renewable energy sources, on the one hand, and ensuring economic efficiency, on the other, as well as creating conditions for private investment in these industries.
