Turkmenistan has already begun discussing the details of a contract with Iraq for swap gas supplies through Iran in the amount of up to 9 bcm per year.

“We are expecting the arrival of the Iraqi delegation within the next month, so we are already in the active stage of negotiations on the contract,” Deputy Chairman of the Turkmengaz state concern Murat Archayev told reporters at the international conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2023”.
“We signed a memorandum with the Iraqi side and further it is already planned to carry out the technical and commercial aspects of the upcoming contract, so several rounds of negotiations are planned,” he specified.
According to him, the Iraqi side will conduct negotiations with Iran on this gas scheme independently.
Iraqi officials have previously stated that they are interested in signing a contract with TurkmenGas for the purchase of natural gas for a period of at least 5 years.
