Turkmenistan and Iran agreed to settle the gas issue
On September 17, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Iranian leader Seyed Ebrahim Raisi in Dushanbe.
The parties discussed the state of current relations, as well as issues related to the export of Turkmen gas to the Islamic Republic.
During the negotiations, the parties agreed to settle the gas issue. Berdimuhamedov noted the importance of increasing the efficiency of the work of the joint commission on economic partnership, as well as the intergovernmental commission on the development of bilateral cooperation. He pointed to the need to activate transit capacities between the countries, centralasia.news reports.
The Iranian leader, in turn, said that interaction between states can be expanded by increasing energy exchange and expanding cargo transportation.
The representative of the energy commission of the Mejlis of Iran, Mustafa Nahayei, called for the resumption of imports of natural gas from Turkmenistan. According to him, the intensification of purchases of Turkmen “blue fuel” will partially compensate for the gas deficit in winter.
Gas supplies to Iran were terminated on January 1, 2017 due to the large debt of the Iranian company in the relevant direction.
