The planned shutdown of the Blue Stream Black Sea gas pipeline from Russia to Turkey completed ahead of schedule, and gas supply resumed on May 24, reported Interfax referring to the information department of PJSC Gazprom.
It should be noted that preventive maintenance on the gas pipeline began on May 12. The pipeline can pump 47.355 million cubic meters of gas per day.
Blue Stream was commissioned in 2003. In 2017, the gas pipeline operated at 100% utilization, pumping 15.8 billion cubic meters. In 2020, Gazprom supplied 8.76 billion cubic meters of gas via the pipeline.
Turkey receives Russian gas through two offshore gas pipelines – through the recently built Turkish Stream gas pipeline (which also supplies gas to the countries of southern Europe) and the Blue Stream gas pipeline to replace Ukrainian transit.
Maintenance of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline will take place in June.
