Saudi Arabia counts on the fact that nuclear energy will help diversify the country’s energy sector.
At the moment, Saudi Arabia is looking for foreign partners who will help build the nuclear power plant. Abdul Malik al-Sabery, a consultant for nuclear and renewable energy, said that in 2019 a joint venture between Saudi Arabia and a private foreign partner, which the Saudis have yet to choose, will be established.
Thanks to atomic energy, the kingdom will be able to export more oil instead of burning it to produce electricity.
It is planned that the country will generate 17.6 gigawatts due to atomic energy. This is equivalent to 16 reactors.
Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said a month ago that at the end of 2018, the first contract for the construction of two nuclear reactors is likely to be concluded.
