The gas distribution companies SOCAR Georgia Gas, SOCAR Sakorggazi and KazTransGaz-Tbilisi have submitted applications for the purpose of reviewing the existing tariff for supplying, distributing, passing and consuming gas to the National Regulatory Commission for Energy and Water Supply of Georgia (GNERC). This is reported by News-Georgia.
In March, Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze announced the possibility of an increase in tariffs for natural gas in the country. According to Kaladze, it all depends on the decision of GNERC, which has already begun to study the current tariff.
“Natural gas is fully imported from neighboring countries (Azerbaijan and Russia). It is paid for in foreign currency, it is bought for dollars, and it is sold to the population for the national currency. So there is a possibility that the tariffs will increase. But we will wait for the decision of the National Commission,” Kaladze told journalists.
GNERC will take the final decision on the tariff for natural gas on July 20, 2017, which is reported on the commission’s website.
Currently, the tariff for natural gas in Tbilisi is 45.62 tetri per 1 cubic meter, and in the regions it is from 40 to 50 tetri per 1 cubic meter. The current rate is 1 USD – 2.42 lari.
