Gazprom does not intend to resume gas purchases in Turkmenistan in the near future.
“Not yet,’ said deputy chairman of Gazprom Valery Golubev, answering the question of whether or not the concern is going to renew the purchases from Ashgabat in 2017.
Since the beginning of the crisis in 2008, Gazprom tried to revise the price of the purchased Turkmen gas. Since 2009, Gazprom bought annually about 10 bcm. In 2015, the Russian company announced its intention to reduce purchases up to 4 bcm.
Since January 2015 Gazprom paid Turkmengaz break-even price of exports to Europe, according to the electronic newspaper of the oil and gas complex of Turkmenistan.
In June 2015, Gazprom Export initiated arbitration to revise the price for Turkmen gas, delivered from 2010 to 2015. According to Interfax, the buyer demands that it should be returned $ 5 billion of overpayment.
Since the beginning of 2016 Gazprom has stopped receiving Turkmen gas. According to the Agency for Gas Information (AGI) sources in the industry, Gazprom took a ‘break in the contract’ until the end of 2017.
