Missing Oil Worker Found on Bottom of Caspian Sea
Yesterday morning, the body of the oil worker lost from the production platform Deepwater Gunashli in the Caspian Sea was found, an informed source in the oil circles told Caspian Barrel.
Recall that on November 8, BP Azerbaijan (operator of the offshore Azeri – Chirag – Deepwater Guneshli field development project) spread a message that ‘an employee of a contractor company has been lost.’
BP Azerbaijan did not report the names of the contractor or the missing oilman. The company noted that the employee was from another company and this information, according to the signed contract, may be disclosed by the contractor only.
Later Caspian Barrel became aware that the employee was a driller from the Scottish company KCA Deutag.
Caspian Barrel has learned from reliable sources that the missing worker was searched for exactly two days. After he was not found on the platform, they began searching the sea. Then a special remote-controlled underwater apparatus was descended into the sea and under the platform Deepwater Gunashli it photographed a body in uniform. After that, at a depth of 120 meters with the help of other equipment the oilman’s body was raised and taken to forensic examination.
* The platform Deepwater Guneshli daily produces 70,000 barrels of oil. This platform was suspended for modernization in the first ten days of September.
