In the near future Iran will most likely pump its gas into the underground gas storages of Azerbaijan, Amir Hossein Zamaninia, Deputy Oil Minister of Iran for International and Commercial Affairs, told Trend.
He said this issue has been discussed at the meeting between Iranian Oil Minister and SOCAR President.
“This is a very important issue for Iran and most likely Iranian gas will be pumped into the Azerbaijani gas storages in the near future. Azerbaijan has two gas storages – Garadag and Galmaz – with the capacity of up to 5 bcm of gas, but one of third of it stands idle. In Iran gas consumption goes up in winter and it was an interesting proposal to store gas for the northern regions of Iran in Azerbaijan’s gas storages,” said Zamaninia.
He said Azerbaijan and Iran discuss the possibilities of development of oil and gas fields in the Caspian Sea, but there are no concrete results yet.
