Kazakhstan plans to complete modernization of all three major refineries operating in the country – Atyrau, Shymkent and Pavlodar refineries in 2018, according to the information on the results of activity of the Kazakh energy ministry for 2015 and tasks for 2016, published on the ministry’s website.
Earlier it was planned to complete modernization of all the refineries in 2016.
Modernization of the Pavlodar oil and chemical plant is scheduled for completion in 2018. The project cost is $697 million. Some 12 percent of capital expenditures were spent.
The reconstruction and modernization of Atyrau refinery is scheduled for completion in 2017. The cost of construction is $2.05 billion. Some 36.1 percent of capital expenditures were spent.
Modernization and reconstruction of the Shymkent refinery is also planned to be completed in 2017. The project cost is $2.04 billion. Some 6.9 percent of capital investments were spent.
* In 2015 Kazakhstan’s oil refineries refined 14,546,000 tons of oil. Kazakhstan does not fully supply itself with the oil products and currently it mainly imports them from Russia.
