By 2020 oil extraction on the Kashagan field in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea will reach 13 million tons, Kazakhstan Vice Minister of Energy Magzum Mirzagaliyev said on Tuesday.
Oil production was suspended on Kashagan in September 2013 two weeks after commencement, because of gas leakage. The government expected that extraction will resume at the end of 2016. KazMunaiGas (KMG), Eni, ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch Shell, Total, Inpex and CNPC companies take part in the project.
“The works to replace the pipelines on the Kashagan field are going ahead of the schedule, commercial extraction of oil is expected to be resumed by the end of 2016 and by 2020 it will reach 13 million tons,” Novosti Kazakhstan agency quoted Mirzagaliyev as saying at the session of the government.
