Romania’s refusal of the Russian gas import will not play a significant role for Russia, Russian Duma Deputy Ivan Grachev told Russian News Service.
He said the amount of gas supplied to Romania “is less, than accidental fluctuations of Gasprom’s export.” This will have no impact on us, Grachev said,
Commenting on the information about gas discovered in Romania, Deputy added: “I do not know their offshore fields exactly. They have started exploration and the forecasts were not bad. This is possible in Romania. There are no changes to make anything serious in Europe, but Romania could supply itself at the expense of its fields in the Black Sea.”
Nikolaye Khavrilets, chief of the Romanian National Agency for Energy Regulation, said that since 2016 Romania could stop Russian gas import. “If in 2008 Romania imported from Russia about 25% of natural gas consumed in the country, in 2015 this index decreased to 3%. There are preconditions for stoppage of gas import next year completely,” Khavrilets said. He added that annual gas consumption in Romania totals 11 billion cub.m.
