Russia will not extend the contract with Ukraine on gas transit to Europe after 2019 on the disadvantageous conditions, RIA Novosti quoted Russian Premier Dmitrii Medvedev as saying in his interview to the Slovenian Delo newspaper.
At present the rate of gas transit via Ukraine is $2.7 per 1000 cub.m. per each 100 km. Ukraine claims that it would like to raise the rate up to $5.00.
Medvedev said that the contract on the Russian gas transit will expire “on January 1, 2020 at 10.00 a.m.”
“If the contract is not extended, we will not have the legal basis for further gas supplies through Ukraine,” he added.
It was earlier reported that Ukraine is sure that Russia will have no other choice and it will be forced to extend the transit contract, which expires in 2019.
