Azerbaijan has enough gas resources to supply Europe for decades, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at a joint press conference with Donald Tusk, European Union President, in Baku on July 22, 2015.
President also said that Azerbaijan’s proved gas resources total about 2.6 trillion cub.m. The gas resources of the Shah Deniz field, which is the only resource for the Southern Gas Corridor, total over 1 trillion cub.m.
President Aliyev Ilham added that the Southern Gas Corridor project is at the active stage of its implementation.
“Azerbaijan has initiated the project and now it actively works with its partners, neighbors and investors to ensure timely implementation of the project,” said President Ilham Aliyev.
He also added that the Southern Gas Corridor is the project, which unites the countries and which is advantageous for the investors, transit countries and consumers.
“Construction of the trans-Anadolu (TANAP), which is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor, started in March 2015 and we are on schedule,” said President Ilham Aliyev.
He added that TANAP is the energy safety project and today energy safety cannot be separated from national security. President also added that TANAP is the project of the energy diversification.
President Ilham Aliyev said that the Southern Gas Corridor project will ensure diversification not only of the routes of deliveries, but also of sources of deliveries.
“Azerbaijan with its sources of deliveries, infrastructure and experience of implementation of big energy projects plays its role in it,” said President Ilham Aliyev.
