US pressures Greece for it not to be involved in implementation of the new projects for export of Russian gas to Europe through Turkey, Greek Minister of Environment Protection and Energy Panayotis Lafazanis said.
“They (US) exert a strong pressure,” Lafazanis said when asked by RIA Novosti yesterday at a press conference in Moscow. The goal of the visit was to discuss the energy cooperation between Greece and Russia.
Lafazanis said that Greece is going to pursue a more independent energy policy, than before, based first and foremost on the national interests.
Lafazanis did not comment on the statement made by Greek Minister of National Defense Panos Kammenos during his visit to the US. Kammenos said at the recent meeting with Victoria Nooland, US Assistant Secretary of State , that Greece is interested in the intergovernmental agreement with the United States for development of oil and gas fields.
