Iran has started construction of the second gas pipeline to the southern city of Basra in Iraq, TACC reported quoting IRNA agency.
According to the project, carrying capacity of the pipeline will be 35 million cub.m. of gas a day. When construction is completed, gas export to Iraq will be increased within two years. At first 4 million cub.m. of gas a day will be pumped through the system and later on the capacity could be increased up to 25 million cub.m.
The both pipelines are able to export 70 million cub.m. of gas a day to Iraq. In Iraq gas is mainly used as fuel for the electric station, IRNA agency reported.
