The US company already has agreements on deliveries worth $50 million.
BHP Billiton exports 600,000 barrels of gas condensate from the Eagle Ford shale field on the south of Texas.
Various companies are involved in extracted on Eagle Ford and in the future they could follow the company’s example.
Now BHP will be the first company exporting oil from the US with lack of permission of the federal regulators.
This is another sign of weakening of the federal ban on delivery of the US oil abroad, which is effective since the 1970s.
The company believes that the agreement does not fall under the ban. Although gas condensate was traditionally considered a by-product of gas production on the gas condensate fields, BHP Billiton believes that this is a refined product passed through the fracking fractionators.
Gas condensate is an ultra-light oil, which the shale beds contain.
