The European Commission is interested in the talks with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan concerning the joint activities in the trans-Caspian project, Malena Mard, head of the EU representation in Azerbaijan, told journalists.
She said EU attaches a special importance to implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project.
EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have a tripartite format of the meeting on the trans-Caspian project, Mard said, but added that she cannot name exact date of the meeting yet.
This week Azerbaijani Energy Minister Natig Aliyev confirmed to journalists that EU is going to hold the next round of talks with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to discuss construction of the trans-Caspian gas pipeline.
“EU Energy Commissar Gunter Oettinger has offered to hold another round of talks with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in Brussels, but unfortunately Turkmenistan did not attend the meeting. Oettinger has assured me that the meeting will take place without fail,” Aliyev added. The Minister does not know the new date of the talks.
Azerbaijani Minister said that the meeting has been scheduled, but Turkmenistan’s officials did not arrive to Brussels.
The talks between EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on the trans-Caspian gas pipeline started in September 2011.
