Nigerian oilmen have gone on a strike, which could lead to suspension of oil production and export, reported Platts.
On September 16, 2014 the trade unions announced hunger strike after an unsuccessful attempt to solve conflict with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) concerning pensions and other problems.
We have urged members of our Trade Union to go on strike to make the administration to fulfill our requirements to upgrade NNPC pension system, because at present the oilmen cannot get everything they are entitled to, press officer of Nupeng and Pengasdan subdivisions of trade unions in NNPC said in his interview to the agency.
NNPC head office in Abuja will be closed for the employees and visitors, said the trade union’s representative.
Press officer warned that if NNPC administration fails to meet the oilmen’s requirements, “the export terminals will be closed in the nearest future.”
