The discovery of new oil and gas fields on the territory of Romania will be announced in the near future, said Romanian Minister of Energy Rezvan Nikolesku.
Romanian official said that the new discovery is a result attention paid by Romania to this problem recently and encouragement of exploration and production of natural resources. ‘”One should not be surprised if hundreds of millions Euro of investments will turn into new discoveries of oil or natural gas in the coming days, weeks or months,” Minister added.
He also expressed satisfaction with the volume of gas in the storages of the country in winter 2014-2015. At present Romania does not cover its gas needs from its own sources and imported about 22% of 42% of consumed gas from Russia, reported REGNUM news agency.
The potential gas fields discovered on the Black Sea shelf, which Romania took from Ukraine through court in 2009, are currently investigated for the purpose of profitability of production, which could be completed only by the end of 2020 in case of successful completion of the process.
