Turkmenistan President Gurbanglu Berdymohammadov has signed a decree to establish the Solar Power Institute under the Academy of Sciences.
According to the decree, the Institute “will help to study the potential of renewable sources of power in the country, improve scientific-technical research and apply scientific innovations.”
According to the decree, the Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences has been instructed to work out and approve the provision on the Solar Power Institute.
It was reported in 2012 that the Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences has received the first sample of technical silicon from quartz sand using solar power. The scientists of the country have also created the solar-wind complex able to supply the distant pastures with water and power within a year in the desert-like conditions.
Among other innovations are water-desalinating solar installation and the installation of hot water supply and the solar greenhouse with the heat saving ground. The international experts believe that manufacture of solar batteries for their export could be established in Turkmenistan.
The climatic conditions of Turkmenistan allow using the power of sun and wind almost year round.
In July the duration of the day in Turkmenistan is about 16 hours. The power of solar rays per 1 sq.m. is 800 Watt. About 300 days a year in the country are sunny and duration of sunny days reaches about 2500-3000 hours a year.
